Olivier Polge is one of my favorite active
perfumers. Polge’s creations were always original, vivid and out of the nominal
genre. Original Dior Homme, in my opinion is one the most influential
fragrances in the history. However, everything I like about Polge’s style was in
pre-Chanel time, while in Chanel I do not see these creative sparks..
F by Ferragano pour Homme Black is one of
these pre-Chanel Polge’s creations. Once again, the perfumer broke all gender
boundaries by introducing a hefty dose of baby powder in a fragrance for men. A
year later, he will repeat a similar trick in famous Midnight in Paris. F pour
Homme Black starts with a big apple kick, immediately followed soft baby powder,
as the hallmark of the fragrance. Beneath white powder is the lavender, which perfectly
counterbalance the powdery aspects by its classical perfumery vibe. The
lavender is also soft, and somehow synthetic. Soon, spices take the part –
pepper and especially coriander which give that La Nuit de l’Homme similarity.
Only similarity in vibe, sharing the spicy aspect, lavender and powdery touch.
During its evolution to the base, the baby powder remains, sweetened by the
Tonka.
The whole composition is fairly synthetic.
Personally, this synthetic nature of F pour
Homme Black was sometimes off-putting to wear. But, this fragrance has a magic
effect on people around me. It is an absolute compliment getter. My fiancé
adores it, and describes it as THE best smelling fragrance in my collection,
and I have a pretty nice collection. Is it F pour Homme Black the new La Nuit
de l’Homme? No, because it has its style of magic powder accord and lavender. Trussardi
Riflesso is much closer to YSL legend.
F by Ferragamo pour Homme Black is solid
release with amazing compliment potential. For the reasons still unknown to me
it draws positive attention to a wearer. Beautiful in its own way. A worthy try.
