Rochas Moustache Eau de Parfum – Lonely Poet (Nathalie Gracia – Cetto, 2018)

Scentrack: Bill Evans – Blue in Green

Rochas is an old French perfume house which, unfortunately, is lately not recognized and appreciated enough. Their earlier creations were always somehow ahead of their time and not very welcomed by customers. It seems that recently they are more focused on current trends and have more commercial success. For instance, Rochas l’Homme is an expanded version of Dior Sauvage ambroxan theme, while Moustache EdP seems like a perfect connection of Rochas’ legacy and current trends in perfumery. Moustache opens with a very realistic and fresh mandarin orange and sharp, but harmonically introduced pepper note. Warm, amber notes with sweet resins immediately overwhelm the whole composition. Everything is warm, festive, and cuddly. An oriental rose accord is hidden beneath this warm veil of amber. Funky Atlas cedar with sparkling Iso E Super give this creation a more masculine touch, while a burst of patchouli an oily garage impression. The base is even more oriental due to stronger vanilla and ever present amber. A perfectly executed creation in a perfectly retro bottle, with just one drawback – spotty performance. Moustache EdP is a bridge between good old times and the present. It somehow radiates masculinity, while being soft, warm, and cuddly. A romantic soul in the cold world. A lonely poet in a rainy city.
